about me...
Sunday Jane is situated in the Greater Washington D.C. area. I am an artist, illustrator, and author with 48 years of experience in producing exceptional fine art, paintings, illustrations, pieces, home decor, and greeting cards that reflect the human spirit and the Black experience. As a mixed artist, I love experimenting with different materials to craft captivating imagery, textures, and emotions.
I earned my BFA from Ohio Dominican College in 1986, and since then, I have been dedicated to creating inspiring, spirited, and thought-provoking artwork.

My passion for transforming history into art ignited one summer during a project at the University of Cincinnati. For 10 weeks, I dedicated my efforts to creating mosaics that illustrated the Underground Railroad at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. This transformative experience fueled my desire to create images that narrate the struggles and triumphs of Black Americans. Additionally,
I am committed to producing artwork that reflects my faith in God and supports global causes, including Breast Cancer Awareness for American women, initiatives for orphans, feeding programs in Tanzania, and raising awareness about ongoing slavery worldwide.
Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, I was fortunate to collaborate with many talented Black artists during my childhood and young adulthood, including my brother, Charles Dillard, who mentored me. As an artist, I have since had the privilege to exhibit at the ACE art gallery and work alongside an incredible group of fellow artists.

Aminah Robinson, Larry Collins, Kojo, and Smokey to name a few. I have also exhibited and worked with Thomas Blackshear, as my mentor, Clarence Shivers, Wallace Conway, Chester Commodore, and Michael Singletary. The use of impressionism techniques conveys purity in voice and color.
My art is both whimsical and expressive in texture and form. I have created lines of products that translate into Spoke Art for everyday home décor. Storytelling through the expression! Enjoy my site of 45 professional years as an artist. I hope my art inspires your faith, life, and hope!
